January 3, 2011

Did my one mile in 7:48.  Again, on a treadmill.  This time with a big fat bagel in my tummy.  Not fun, but made it through.  I know I could be faster on a track or outside, but haven't been ambitious enough to do it.  I looked up my time last year for training and I was doing 2 miles in 18:40ish.  That is 9.3 minute  miles..  so I have shaved a good 2 minutes off my time.  Can't complain.

PS, Elise!  When are you going to post...That's right, I'm calling you out!

January 1, 2011

I ran 1.5 miles in 11:44 today, on a treadmill. As I said, I'm working on increasing my speed. Last year, in the beginning...and throughout, I had a hard time running any faster than a 6.5 on the treadmill. Today I ran at a 7.5 for a bit, upped it to above 8 and finished it out at 9. Crazy faster than last year!

Thursday, December 30th

So I was going to run today.  Only a mile and a half...but there is a blizzard and #1 I'm not equipped to run in these conditions and #2 I can't get my car out of the parking lot to go to the gym.  Guess I'll sit today out.  I mean technically we aren't starting till the 1st anyway, right?
I will say that I did one mile the other day (inside, on a track) and in about 7:10.  Pretty fast for me.  I forgot to mention that one of my goals is to actually run at a decent speed this time around.  Last time I just cared about getting my miles in.  I'd like to keep track of pace more, and decrease my times.  Don't get me wrong, I don't want to obsess over speed, but I just want to push myself harder...and if I'm being honest, it's because Elise kicked my ass last July!

And ps, though I am wimping out due to extreme conditions, I will just point out that I did jog around the block twice with my puppy today.  So, it's not as if I'm just sitting on my butt ;)

Wednesday December 29, 2010

So today I ran two miles in 18 minutes.  Definitely not my fastest but I got the job done.  I'm planning on starting out slow.  I did about a ten minute warm up and a ten minute cool down along with some stretching.  I'm planning on doing another two or three tomorrow.  Hopefully cutting some time off my mile!

Goals.

So I figured we could start off by listing our goals with running this half marathon.  You know so we're not just running for hecks sake!
1. I would like to loose those five holiday pounds we all love to put on.
2. I'm hoping this is the push i need to start a healthy lifestyle.
3. I want running to become a hobby and not a work out. (or at least) not feel like I'm making myself workout.
4. To bond with my sister.  tender right?

Goals
1.  I like the "running as a hobby, not as a work out" idea.  I wish I was one of those people that enjoys running so much they actually schedule other things around it...not because the feel like the need to burn of half a cheesecake they ate last night, but because the WANT to?!?!?!?  I like to run, and I would say maybe once a week I feel like "hmm, a run would be nice"  but I'm never craving it daily.  I'd like to get there.
2.  I'm not going to say that I want to loose poundage, per se, but I do want to be a leaner version of myself.  I'm getting a tad fluffy.
3.  I don't want to die young (or ever) so I intend to use this as a means of staying fit and healthy.
4.  A sense of accomplishment (I know, cliché).  I want to set a decent goal, that takes effort, planning and time to complete...and then, you guessed it, actually do it.
4.  The obvious: Hang time with Elise
